Fuel Borne Catalysts 

As a result of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, Infineum has developed fuel borne catalysts (FBCs) for the regeneration of diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

Method of Action – FBCs reduce the temperature at which soot burns. The FBC is burnt with the fuel in the engine and is carried into the DPF along with the particulate matter (PM) where it catalyses the reaction of soot with oxygen in the exhaust gas. The FBC lowers the temperature at which the reaction occurs from over 600°C to around 350°C depending on engine emissions.

Additisation - The FBC can be added to bulk diesel fuel or via an on-board  that introduces it to the vehicle fuel tank or the fuel lines.

Advantages - As a regeneration method for DPFs, fuel-borne catalysts have several performance advantages over the use of catalyzed DPFs: 

• Regeneration is faster and more complete
• FBCs are more tolerant to high levels of fuel sulphur
• Regeneration is independent of engine NOx/PM ratios
• Do not produce additional NO2 emissions

Infineum FBCs can be applied to DPF systems in a broad range of applications and uses, from passenger cars, and buses and trucks, to off-road vehicles; and from retrofitted systems to new original equipment manufacturer (OEM) models.

• Formulated with operator safety and ease of handling in mind
• Provide fast and effective regeneration at low fuel additive treat rates
• No increase in NO2 emissions, making them suitable for applications in closed environments (e.g., underground mining) Good stability in a range of fuels when other fuel additives or even contaminants such as water are present
• Non-aromatic solvent
• Less odour
• Less aggressive to vehicles materials
• Low injector fouling 

New technologies such as DPF active regeneration systems can extend the benefits of FBCs to applications with very low exhaust temperatures, even down to 180°C.
