Students and Industrial Placements

Infineum students have the opportunity to get hands-on industry experience in some of the most relevant and challenging projects in the industry. Many of our colleagues have joined Infineum after successful placements – therefore we are keen to develop a close relationship with a view to possible future employment.

Assignments are available at our locations in the US, UK, Italy and Singapore (you must be legally eligible to work in the country that you are applying for).

UK: Industrial Placements – Chemical Engineers and Chemistry

Chemical Engineering

Our one year placements are available within our Chemical Engineering Process Improvement Team located at our state of the art research facility in Oxfordshire.

This broad ranging placement will allow students to work on process improvement activities to reduce cost and waste, increase capacity or improve product quality. Plant troubleshooting will be a key activity, as well as working on scale-up processes for new product development.

Projects will use laboratory and pilot-scale experimentation and in some cases, simulation.

You will gain valuable knowledge and expertise in:

  • Translating processes from the lab through to commercial production
  • Understanding the challenges in addressing real live plant issues
  • Reactive chemistry and process engineering
  • Working in a best practice global organization - working across time, distance and cultures

Our Requirements:

Successful students will:

  • Be studying for a MSc in Chemical Engineering, with predicted grades of a First or 2:1
  • Demonstrate a strong technical aptitude
  • Have good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Possess strong team working skills
  • Can demonstrate problem solving ability
  • Fluency in two or more languages would be an advantage, but is not required

Recruiting cycle:

We accept resumes from September through early November. Students who are placed will begin in late July – August the following year.

Chemistry

Chemistry students are placed in one of our R&D teams working on the next generation of fuel additives. Students can be placed on one of the following teams:

  • Engine Lubricant Additives: Students work on projects related to passenger car motor oils, heavy duty diesel oils, viscosity modifiers and lubricant flow improvers.
  • Fuel Additives: Projects here relate to middle distillate, heavy fuel and crude oil flow improvers, anticorrosion, combustion improvers, lubricity improvers and premium diesel, gasoline and heating oil additives.
  • Specialty Lubricant Additives: Two and four stroke engine oils, transmission and gear oils, marine oils, railroad lubricants, gas engine oils and industrial products are the main project areas that students will work in.

You will gain valuable knowledge and expertise in working in multi-functional teams on projects involving a wide range of chemistry related skills.

Assignments will be largely lab based, with some office work - a strong technical background is required.

Our Requirements:

Successful students will:

  • Be studying a variety of Chemistry related degree courses
  • Be going into the 2nd or 3rd years of study
  • Have a strong technical aptitude
  • Have good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
