Infineum Japan’s Sustainable Development Goals Week: from awareness to action

Volunteering - 3 October 2022

Community clean-up, clothes donations and sustainability engagement sessions were among the activities run at Infineum site in Tokyo as part of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Week.

The Infineum Japan SDGs Week was held for the second time last September (22 – 30 September) after a successful launch last year and it is set to become a regular event in Tokyo aimed at making the United Nations’ SDGs tangible actions in our normal business life.

Almost all staff in Japan took part in the various activities run over the week. They had follow-up workshops on the goals they set last year and shared the progress made in areas such as waste reduction, volunteering in the community, office supplies / utility usage reduction, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). More practical activities included a site clean-up and donations of clothes resulting respectively in 630kg of waste collected (which was also sorted for recycling) and 34 kg of clothing donated to local charities.

Sustainability Director Maurizio Abbondanza opened the event joining online a session dedicated to Infineum’s Sustainability Report explaining how the company is taking significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint

We were very pleased with the outcome of this second SDGs Week. All staff was very keen to learn more about our sustainability approach and to move forward into integrating the UN sustainability goals in the way we operate.

We can never stress enough the importance of becoming more sustainable and this event has been an opportunity to stimulate each other to further support our environment and our community. So, we are hoping to make it a regular appointment taking place twice a year linked respectively to Global Earth Day in April and Global Goals Week in September.
