Infineum’s Vado Ligure site in Italy recently emerged as a finalist in the Green Economy Award 2024. This award, presented by Comunicazione Italiana, recognises Italian companies that have integrated outstanding sustainability and well-being practices into their daily operations.
Our Vado Ligure site’s shuttle service for colleagues were among the projects recognised. With the site located in an area inaccessible by local public transport, many colleagues often get to work by car or scooter from the nearest railway station. In response to suggestions raised by colleagues, a shuttle bus service was initiated on 5 October 2023 which transports colleagues from the railway station to the site. Many colleagues have been traveling to work by this shuttle bus.
Through this initiative, the use of colleagues’ personal vehicles to commute to work is reduced. Several colleagues highlighted the environmental and economic advantages of travelling to work by shuttle bus.
Dario Castellaro, Contact Engineer says, “I used to travel 50km to work daily by car. I now use public transport and the shuttle bus to get to work. The shuttle bus service helped to reduce the stress of travelling, while reducing CO2 emissions and personal transportation costs.”
Stefano Carbonaro, Process Computer Control Engineer, affirms this by stating, “I previously travelled 110km daily by car to work. By taking the shuttle bus, I can reduce the environmental impact of my commute and bond with fellow commuter colleagues. Thank you Infineum for demonstrating concern for employees and the environment.”
To run the shuttle bus service, the Vado Ligure team partnered with the Aldebaran Social Cooperative Society. It aims at the inclusion of disadvantaged individuals in the job market, providing work opportunities through commercial or service activities among others.
Nadia Arena, HR Administrator says, “I worked extensively on this project as part of the HR department, along with the Local Government office and the Aldebaran Cooperative. I am very proud of the collaborative effort to make this a reality, which exemplifies Infineum’s hopes to create a more inclusive and sustainable work environment.”
Stefania Torselli, Finance Manager says,
“The driver is a very nice person, and we consider him to be part of the team! I can only thank Infineum Italia for this solution that changed my working life positively.”
The team at Vado Ligure is currently planning for the future of the shuttle bus service, such as upgrading to a larger minibus to accommodate more colleagues.
Federica Modugno, HR Manager, received the award at the ceremony on behalf of Infineum. She says “This is a great achievement for Infineum, demonstrating our consideration for sustainability in our business decisions. Sustainability is not only an environmental necessity, but also a strategic lever to ensure long-term growth for our company. A big thank you to all behind this initiative for the extraordinary work!”
Infineum is proud to have our sites champion environmental and social sustainability through such innovative initiatives, while boosting the well-being of our employees.
