Infineum actively encourages our colleagues to volunteer for charity and community outreach causes and provides colleagues with an extra day of annual leave for participation in volunteering activities. This is part of our sustainability approach as we strive to deliver a positive impact in the communities where we operate.
With International Volunteer Day recognising people from all around the world who dedicate their efforts to voluntary service, we would like to share how our colleagues from several sites have volunteered their time in events that promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills and careers to students in 2024. These outreach initiatives hope to cultivate students’ interest in the STEM field, contributing to the industry’s talent pool.
Colleagues from our Milton Hill and Linden sites recently represented Infineum at career fairs organised by UTC Reading and Manhattan University respectively, engaging with STEM students at pre-university and university levels.
Our colleagues answered the questions of curious students, providing deeper insights into what they can expect from careers in the chemical industry, as well as the various education and career paths they can take.
In Singapore, a group of colleagues volunteered to take part in the Chemical Industry Experience event (ChemEx). An annual event organised by the Singapore Chemical Industry Council, ChemEx allows students to learn more about career opportunities in the chemical industry. The event was attended by 500 students from eight Institutes of Higher Learning.
Besides sharing with students more about internships and job prospects at Infineum, colleagues also spoke about our net-zero ambitions, that is demonstrated through Infineum’s sustainability initiatives and was of interest to many students.
Wui Kar Soon, Singapore Plant Manager, said: “It was heartening to sense the students’ enthusiasm through our interactions, as it demonstrated a potential talent pool that we can tap on. A big thank you to our colleagues who helped ensure that the event ran smoothly and sharing valuable advice with the next generation.”
Infineum thanks colleagues who have generously given their time and efforts to inspire rising STEM talent at these outreach events, as well as in other volunteering initiatives. We hope to continue cultivating the spirit of volunteering across our sites.
