Infineum’s Bayway Site Recognised for Ensuring Chlorine Safety

Safety - 17 April 2025

Our Bayway Manufacturing Plant has been awarded ‘Diamond Level’ status by The Chlorine Institute (CI), recognising the site’s achievement of zero recordable injuries, reportable quantity releases and Risk Management Programme incidents involving chlorine, for over five years.

As a technical trade association, the CI and its member companies are committed to safe, proper and sustainable handling of the CI’s mission chemicals in production, distribution and use. These chemicals include chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sodium hypochlorite, and sodium and potassium hydroxides.

With chlorine as one of the raw materials used at our Bayway site, strict systems and protocols as part of our broader health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) standards are implemented and adhered to. This ensures the safety of everyone on site, as well as the surrounding local community and environment.

Colleagues at our Bayway site share their thoughts on this achievement:

Rob Lucas, Plant Manager: “The ‘Diamond Level’ award signifies what can be achieved when our process safety and risk management systems become the ‘way we work’. This enables us to operate and maintain world-class chlorine facilities, upholding Infineum’s reputation as an industry leader.”

Phil Leckner, HSSE Leader: “We are honoured to be recognised by the CI for our Process and Personal Safety record, made possible through the dedication to safety by all our colleagues on site.”

Andrew Cunningham, Components Business Unit Leader: “As with many systems, the people who use them daily play a critical role in ensuring their success and is one of Infineum’s greatest strengths. I am excited for the continued momentum that we will build from here.”

Maria Fernandes, Production Manager: “This recognition is a testament to Infineum’s safety culture and managing risks with the highest level of respect and care for our site and community. Congratulations to our team at Bayway!”
