#InfineumCARES: Fuelling a love for cars in the classroom

Volunteering - 28 March 2025

The #InfineumCARES monthly series spotlights the volunteering efforts of colleagues from our sites around the world, as part of our ambition of supporting people and communities.

Shahzeb Sayeedi, Technologist at our Linden site, is a volunteer at Union County Magnet High School, where he shares his passion for cars with students.

A car enthusiast since young, Shahzeb’s interest in cars grew through fixing his family car, his main mode of transportation growing up, by consulting Internet forums and sourcing for used parts.

Since sharing about his role at Infineum and its relation to the automotive industry at the school’s Career Day in 2024, Shahzeb was invited back for several guest lectures on aerodynamics in vehicles, where he covered the fundamentals of aerodynamics and effects on vehicle performance. Shahzeb also provided tips on building race cars for the class’s CO2-powered dragster project, which involved miniature racing cars powered by a carbon dioxide cartridge.

Over two Fridays in March, Shahzeb advised the students during their class competition designed by the Technology Student Association (TSA), a nationwide organisation dedicated to enriching the education of students in STEM.

The competition saw students designing and constructing CO2-powered dragsters that adhere to the TSA’s requirements. With Shahzeb’s guidance from the lectures, students built their cars while paying attention to important physical features affecting vehicle performance. They also exercised their creativity by opting for a variety of materials and designs.

Besides being involved in the design and critique process, Shahzeb helped the students to set up their cars for racing against each other. Among the 19 cars built, one winning car will represent the school in a local conference competition organised by the TSA.

Reflecting on his involvement in the competition’s preparation, Shahzeb says, “It was very exciting to see the students’ competitive spirit and how they cheered one another on, which brought back fond memories of the days I participated in school competitions.”

He adds, “The students are inquisitive and a delight to be around. Outside the competition, I received many questions on my current role at Infineum and advised students on future career opportunities. It was great to see the younger generation’s interest in STEM. One student asked me about a future career with NASA, which I replied they absolutely should seek it!”

Infineum actively encourages our colleagues to give back to their local communities through volunteering. For more information about Infineum’s sustainability initiatives, please visit: https://www.infineum.com/sustainability/.
